2024: penumbra

penumbra: adjective (pə-ˈnəm-brə)

  • 1: a space of partial illumination between the perfect shadow on all sides and the full light

  • 2: A surrounding or adjoining region in which something exists in a lesser degree

There are everyday shadows, and then there are Halloween shadows....these things are not the same.

Halloween shadows are the weird and indistinct forms and bizarrely elongated outlines that form where the candlelight ends.

they are those extra-dark corners where absolutely anything could be (and probably is) hiding.

And, of course, They are that thing you thought you saw out of the corner of your eye.

It is also the grim specter that looms over all living things,

these vague outlines, sinister shapes, and the omnipresent reaper himself were the inspiration for the 2024 Halloween display, 'penumbra'.
